Zillertal - Petzl RocTrip

This past weekend we decided to take a trip down to the Zillertal in Austria to check out this climbing festival/competition going on. It started on Wednesday and we didn't get there until Friday night so we missed lots of it. There were slideshows, movies, raffles, free prizes, and a party and dinner, with an awards ceremony we got to go to on Saturday night. Lots of big name professional climbers and people from all over Europe, the US, Canada, Chile, and Iran! Unfortunately, it rained and it poured. We hiked up to this cliff thinking we would see the pros working a project and it was empty. I think we missed the bulletin board; the whole cliff was soaked. But, Frank climbed a sole dry route that was spectacular and then we headed down to a Gasthaus for a yummy lunch and watched the boulderers flock out of the mountains as the rain picked up. Sunday didn't prove to be any more successful. We thought we'd skip out on the crowds and try some climbing at a place on the way home, but the cliff was terrible. A quarry with garbage all around and wet, slabby climbs. But, it was a fun trip, the mountains were beautiful and we found some new, really good climbing and we had a nice apartment with 4 beds even the dogs had their own and had fun hiking around in the alps. Didn't take many photos but here are a few.
Cheers!

  1. It stinks about all the rain, but the pictures definitely bring back memories of hiking in the Alps with you both in 2006.
